roomie review: October ’16 Allure Beauty Box

Processed with Snapseed.

It’s that time again! It’s finally November and has been a surprisingly nice and Fall-ish month so far. Here’s our #roomiereview of the October 2016 Allure Beauty box!

Spongellé Freesia Pear Body Wash Infused Buffer

Paige: This sponge was the only product in the box that I had never heard of so I was excited to try it out. Aside from wishing that the Freesia Pear scent was stronger, I am in love with this product. I love exfoliators so a sponge with built in soap is my dream. I have a hard describing the texture, but once I start using it in the shower I can’t stop. The exfoliating effect is gentle but definitely get the job done, and leaves me with glowing and soft skin. I’d recommend following up with regular body wash after use because it feels like a soap residue is left behind. (A)

Mary Grace: O…M…G… are my only words for this product. I loved this so much that when it runs out I am DEFINITELY going to purchase it again (and thanks to the coupon Allure provided as well, I am going to feel a lot better about buying one). I loved this because the sponge itself maintains it’s tough structure when it’s dry but the as soon it gets wet in the shower it becomes soft and lathers much more than I expected. I have had many uses out of it the past few weeks and it’s still holding up just fine. And the scent is amazing, I usually like a more shower fresh scent and stay away from fruit but it is subtle in its sweetness and I feel freshly clean all day long. (A+)

Mally Volumizing Mascara

Paige: I believe I’ve written about in this a previous review, but I have blonde lashes naturally so I really need a mascara that is pigmented. Hearing that I would be receiving a full-size sample of mascara in this month’s box was so exciting, and left me extremely disappointed. The pigment was not strong enough, even after a few coats to give my blonde lashes a strong black color. The volumizing effect was not present, and the only great part of this product that I enjoyed besides the packaging was the separating effect it had on my lashes (so no clumps). Definitely, would not purchase. (D)

mally mascara review - Cosmetic Composition.JPGMary Grace: Okay, this was a big disappointment for me. I had been looking forward to trying this because 1) mascara is my favorite thing in the universe and 2) since the full-sized version of the product was $20, I expected it to work much better than a drug store brand. For my experience, I would MAYBE buy it at the drugstore price, but certainly not worth $20. The first coat that went on gave it some lift and kept my lashes separated, but the formula it was made out of did not dry, and my lashes ended up clumped and I had mascara all over my lids. If I added much more than 2 coats it ruined all the work I tried for. The first picture is before adding anything, the second is what my eyes looked like after 2 coats of Mally, and the last is what I tried to fix it. I added Covergirl’s Clump Crusher over it to keep them separated and covered up the markings on my lids with BareMinerals 5-in-1 BB Cream Eyeshadow. (C-)

Klorane Dry Shampoo With Oat Milk

Paige: I’m way too obsessed with dry shampoo for someone who never forgets to shower. As a cult favorite of many, I was super pumped to receive a sample of Klorane’s dry shampoo. The packaging and light scent makes this such a lovely product. Despite it distributing a heavy white powder, it soaks in my hair immediately and has proven to be effective every time I’ve used it. Additionally, I’m a huge fan of the ingredient list. (A+)
Mary Grace: This stuff worked great. Most dry shampoos I’ve used before makes my hair look lighter than my natural shade, and have a grayish tint to it. Being a brunette, I’ve had trouble finding something that works better, and this did just that! It also diffused natural oil that my hair accumulates (I only wash it twice a week since it’s so thick, so on day 2 I like to make it look and smell a little bit better). (A+)

Briogeo Don’t Despair, Repair Deep Conditioning Mask

Paige: I’ve only used this hair mask twice but I fell completely in love after one use. The product smells like the inside of a hair salon, which we all know is the best smell. Applying the product didn’t feel that luxurious or rich in texture but I’ve heard so many great things so I was curious about the results. The next day I could not stop touching my hair, it was so smooth and soft and was actually less frizzy than normal. This might just be the perfect hair mask to start off Fall with. (A+)

Mary Grace: I loved this mask because it really did not take much to smooth out all of my hair (and I have a lot of it), making it well worth a full-sized purchase in my opinion. It didn’t feel like a thick cream like other hair conditioning masks I’ve used, but it made it so miraculously soft 2 days in a row for me. I get so excited to shower with it, about as much as using my Spongellé! (A+)

Doucce Freematic Eyeshadow Single in Kristi

Paige: As a blue eye-haver I love gold eyeshadow. However, after being scarred from my terrible makeup skills in middle school I don’t wear it much anymore. I took the jump and applied the shadow all over my lid, blending like crazy and then applying my normal amount of mascara. This shadow is super highly pigmented but managed to look subtle while wearing it. I’ve started using it as a daily addition to my makeup routine. (A+).

Mary Grace: This eyeshadow was such a great addition to the box! I am very happy that I got to receive this because I have been needing a neutral shimmery color gold to compliment my blue eyes. I think this color would look great on any eye color, though. It was beautiful both in the palette and in my eyes. The only thing misleading about the product is that I thought it would be more pigmented. Nonetheless, I think it was a great addition to my box and I love using it! I will be looking into more of the brand. (A-)

Tatcha Indigo Soothing Silk Body Butter

Paige: You can read my review and break down of the Tatcha body butter here!

Mary Grace: My favorite part of this month’s box was this product by far, and that is saying something considering how much I loved the other products. This body butter was everything I could ever want in a lotion. It was hydrating and not greasy, it had a faint pleasant fragrance that didn’t linger for very long, and it was even a cool indigo color! I have zero complaints about this product. I don’t know if it’s hypoallergenic or not but I think this is the best body butter I’ve ever used. (A+++++++)
