my clay face mask

I’m not one to fall praise towards celebrities, I typically have no interest in what new face treatment they’re all doing, or what secrets their makeup artists share with the world. However, I’m a huge Mindy Kaling fan so I when I saw her post this Instagram of an Aztec face mask I was super curious, I had seen the product on Pinterest but never seen one actually on!

Over winter break, I decided to finally purchase my entire Amazon wish list and ended up buying the following: Indian Healing clay and a mask mixing kit. After a lot of experimentation, I have developed the perfect mask routine using these new purchases.

The following is my formula:

2 parts Indian healing clay powder + 1 part water + 1 part apple cider vinegar + 2/3 drops of tea tree oil

I also put a layer of grapeseed oil on my skin before application, this helps my skin feel less irritated when the mask starts to dry. The tea tree oil isn’t something I do all the time since TTO can be harsh, however if I’m having a bad breakout it does the trick. I typically use this mask once or twice per week.

The Indian healing clay is actually 100% natural calcium bentonite clay, as seen on the label. Bentonite is a natural clay derived from volcanic ash that’s been found in water, and can exist in a variety of forms, calcium being one of them. Clay masks, especially bentonite masks are great for absorbing up all the oil in our pores. So if you have particularly oily skin trying a clay mask would be a great option.

What’s your favorite face mask? Have you ever tried a clay one? I’d love to hear about your experiences below!
